All of it started on flexed knee in the snow

Jason Gardiner is clearly a conventional sort of chap, so when it came time to propose to Gia-Dene Laing he did it appropriately, on bended knee - and in unequaled design.

The Kaitaia couple now live in Perth where Jason, boy of Stephen Gardiner and Viki Murray, operates in the mines at Roy Hill, and Gia-Dene, a one-time staff member at the Northland Age and child of Hongi and Georgina Laing, is a realty property supervisor.

The set were on vacation in France when he proposed, having "smuggled" the ring through Dubai, Amsterdam and Italy.

They were at their favourite snowboarding spot, Serre Chevalier in the French Alps, with pals, and Jason rallied everybody for a ski lift to the top of Col Du Prorel.

" Under the ruse of a group picture we approached the lookout and took selfies, and on this sunny day, while it was snowing, he got down on one knee, at the top of a mountain in France and proposed in front of my closest friends and famz," Gia-Dene said.

" It was amazing!

" We then snowboarded down to the nearby bar and bought French champagne and lamb cutlets. We ate and chuckled and drank for the rest of the afternoon and partied into the night. It was absolutely perfect."

They were wed a little closer to home, at the CopthorneHokianga at Omapere.

" Whales in the bay, 2 bands, a DJ, fireworks, the meanest personnel, amazing location and the coolest guests on earth," Gia-Dene stated.

" The entire experience, from engagement in France to wedding at Omapere, was genuinely magical."

The couple are now anticipating honeymooning in Hawaii, or perhaps Las Vegas, in the next year, but in the meantime are hectic at work and playing touch rugby. They formed Team Nook 6 years earlier, now boasting more than 35 members with 2 teams playing in 2 social competitors in Perth, while Jason coaches an open combined state group and Gia-Dene coaches an under-18 women's group. Both likewise dip into state level.

"Getting a bit older and slower however still loving the sport," she added.
